George founded Lance Lawsuit Funding to address the social disparity in the litigation arena that he witnessed during his 35 years as a trial lawyer. He serves as the chief executive officer and oversees Lance’s litigation investment committee and risk management, as well business development.
As a trial lawyer, George gained national recognition when he won the only jury verdict in history against the United States blood industry for failing to take precautions in the early to mid-1980’s that resulted in thousands of AIDS contaminated blood products being distributed to the American public. The evidence he produced at trial later fueled a congressional investigation into blood industry and the FDA.
The Trial Lawyers for Public Justice nominated George to receive their prestigious “Trial Lawyer of the Year” award for protecting health care consumers.
In the business arena, George later took a leave from his law practice to help launch VaxGen, Inc. a San Francisco based biotech company, that undertook the herculean humanitarian task of developing the world’s first AIDS vaccine.
As VaxGen’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Directors, George helped to navigate the start-up biotech company through its IPO. He also structured business development and international collaborations.
Prior to entering Rutger’s Law School where he graduated with honors, George served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps between 1969 -1972.
